Scale Enough For A Wide Elevation
Small lanterns disappear on big houses. At 41.8cm tall, 24.8cm wide and reaching 28.6cm out from the wall, this is the largest of the three Cedar Point wall lanterns, and it is the one to reach for when the wall is generous: a tall porch, a wide gable, a coach house doorway, a pair flanking double gates. It weighs 4.9kg, so it has the heft the proportions promise.
Black, With Glass That Is Doing Something
The frame is a soft matt black rather than a shiny one, and at this size the geometry finally has room to be read properly: paired vertical bars, short cross pieces meeting at the corners, a squared pattern repeating at the head and foot of each pane. The glass behind it is clear and seeded, with visible bubbles and drawn streaks running through the surface, and the effect after dark is a warm, slightly irregular glow instead of a flat wash. The base panel is glazed like the sides.
How It Works
One E27 lamp, no integrated LED, seeded glass to soften it. The mount is a stepped rectangular backplate measuring 14.8cm by 24.4cm and standing 2.8cm off the wall, with a square section arm carrying over the top of the pitched roof so the lantern hangs beneath rather than sitting behind. Fit a dimmable lamp and it dims. Wiring is Class I, so an earth is required. The IP44 rating covers splashing water from any direction.
Where It Works Best
Wide frontages, tall porches, double fronted houses and anywhere a smaller lantern would simply be lost. It also pairs well, and two of these either side of a broad entrance balance a large door in a way one fitting never manages. If the wall is more modest, the medium and small sizes are the same design scaled down, and the chain lantern and pedestal extend the range to porch ceilings and driveways.
About Quoizel
Glass has always been the interesting part of this company. Quoizel built a good deal of its reputation on Tiffany style stained glass work, taking the technique out of table lamps and into chandeliers, pendants and wall fittings until it became one of the names most associated with the category. That attention carries into the plainer ranges too, which is why the panels here are seeded rather than smooth: the texture is the entire point. The business started in 1930 in Manhattan, has stayed in family ownership throughout, and has been based near Charleston, South Carolina since 1996.

Questions People Ask
Is the large size too much for an ordinary house? Beside a standard single front door it can look heavy, and the medium is usually the better fit there. Save this one for tall porches, wide elevations, coach house doors and paired installations where there is real wall to fill.
What are the fixing dimensions? The backplate is 14.8cm wide by 24.4cm high and stands 2.8cm proud of the wall, which is worth checking against any existing back box before you order.
Can I mix sizes across one property? Yes, and that is rather the point of the range. The small, medium and large wall lanterns share the same roof profile, the same seeded glass and the same black finish, so a large pair at the front door and small ones down the side of the house still read as one scheme.
