A Stained Glass Fitting That Adjusts to Your Ceiling

The Cambridge pendant takes the same leaded Tiffany style shade as the rest of the collection and hangs it on three chains from a central rod, rather than sitting it close to the ceiling. Because the chain length can be adjusted, it works in rooms the semi flush version cannot reach, tall halls, stairwells and dining spaces with real ceiling height to play with.

The Glass and the Finish

Cream and honey glass panels sit against burnt orange sections and small teal green accents, all held in an interlocking Art Nouveau leading pattern that runs round the rim of the shade. The chain, central rod and canopy hardware are finished in Vintage Bronze, a deep, slightly aged bronze that keeps the metalwork quiet so the coloured glass is what catches the eye once it is lit.

How It Works

This pendant runs on three E27 bulbs, not supplied, and is Class I rated, so it needs a proper earth connection. It will dim if you fit dimmable E27 bulbs on a compatible dimmer switch. The chain lets you set the drop anywhere between 88.3cm and 216.7cm, so it can be shortened for a lower ceiling or run long down a stairwell. As a hardwired ceiling fitting it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and given the weight of leaded glass, take care when unpacking and handling it.

Where It Works Best

With three bulbs against the two in the semi flush and table lamp versions, this pendant throws more light and is built for rooms where it hangs as a real centrepiece, over a dining table, down an open stairwell, or in an entrance hall with height to spare. Where the semi flush sits flush for low ceilings and the table lamp works at low level on a side table, the pendant is the option for anyone with the drop to hang it properly.

Quoizel's Move to Charleston

Quoizel spent its first decades in Manhattan, but in 1996 it relocated its headquarters, manufacturing and distribution to a 305,000 square foot facility near Charleston, South Carolina, where it still operates today. The change brought a Southern, low country influence into the design studio, and fittings like this pendant, with its traditional leaded glasswork, are still produced from that base.
