Four Candles In A Bell Of Bare Steel
An open steel bell with four slim ribs, and four candle lamps sitting inside it. No shade, no glass. What you see hanging is the frame itself plus whatever lamps you put in it, which makes the lamp choice part of the design rather than an afterthought.
Antique White, And How It Reads
The Bradbury frame comes in two finishes, this Antique White and a much darker Grey Ash, and they are not interchangeable choices. Up close the Antique White is a chalky off white rather than a clean bright white, with a warm sandy tone rubbed through on the rim, along the candle tubes and around the edges of the leaf blades underneath. Against a white ceiling it almost disappears. Against a deeper wall colour it looks paler and more graphic than it really is. Choose it if you would rather the fitting softened the room than outlined itself against it.
How It Works
The frame hangs from a round flat ceiling plate on an oval link chain, with a large ring joining chain to frame. Take links out or leave them in and the drop sits anywhere between 59.3cm and 307.5cm, which covers a standard ceiling and a tall hallway equally well. It takes four E14 lamps and those are not supplied. It will dim, but only if the lamps you fit are dimmable ones. It is Class I, so an earth connection at the ceiling is required, and it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Steel throughout, 4kg all in.
Where It Works Best
At 40.5cm across and 51.3cm tall this is the compact one in the family, and it suits a spot where you want shape without bulk. Over a small kitchen island, in a bay window, at the end of a landing, or as a pair either side of a bed. The five light chandelier that shares the design is a different proposition, 63.6cm wide with its candles standing on top of an open ring, so it lights upward as well as down. This pendant keeps its lamps tucked inside the cage instead, which pushes light downward and throws the rib pattern outward across the ceiling. Because every lamp is visible, decorative candle lamps are worth the small extra cost here.
Made By Quoizel
Quoizel started in Manhattan in 1930, when Michael Chaikin set up a small lamp company whose first trade was hurricane lamps that burned oil. Electric light was still arriving in plenty of American homes at the time. Most of a century later, the candle tube and drip pan detail on a frame like this one is a direct descendant of that oil burning stock, kept on because it still looks right rather than out of sentiment.

Questions People Ask
How much bigger is the five light chandelier? Considerably wider. The chandelier measures 63.6cm in diameter against 40.5cm here, and 60.8cm tall against 51.3cm, so it needs a good deal more clear space around it.
What lamps does it take, and are they included? Four E14 lamps, and no, they are not included. Since the frame is completely open and every lamp is on show, clear candle lamps look best.
Is it suitable for a bathroom? No IP rating is quoted for this pendant, so treat it as a dry indoor fitting only and keep it out of bathrooms.
