Valise brings the spirit of vintage luxury luggage into the dining room, its long steel frame wrapped in supple cognac vegan leather and finished with vintage brass hardware at each end. It reads more like a beautifully made travel case than a conventional light fitting, which is exactly the point: this is a linear pendant designed to sit above a table or kitchen island and be looked at as much as looked under.
Cognac leather and vintage brass
The body is dressed in cognac vegan leather, a warm tan tone stitched cleanly along a steel frame. Vintage brass fittings bookend the fixture and frame a frosted acrylic diffuser along its length, giving the light a soft, even glow rather than a hard line of brightness. The finish sits comfortably with oak, walnut and other warm woods, as well as with brushed or aged metal furniture and fittings nearby.
How it works
Valise houses an integrated 30W LED module rather than a replaceable bulb, so there's no bulb to buy or swap out over its life. It is dimmable, though this depends on pairing it with a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit, it isn't a feature of a bulb you fit yourself. The drop is adjustable between roughly 31.8cm and 131.1cm, so it can be set to sit low over a table or higher where more headroom is needed. This is a Class I fitting, which means it must be connected to an earthed supply and installed by a qualified electrician.
Where it works best
At 80cm wide, Valise is sized for spaces where a single fitting needs to make an impact along a run, over a dining table or along a kitchen island, rather than a small pendant hung solo. Quintiesse designed it with dining rooms and kitchens in mind, and the adjustable drop means it can be tuned to suit both a standard dining height and the slightly higher clearance often wanted over an island. Because it runs the full length of the piece, it suits a fairly generous table or island rather than a compact breakfast bar.
