Quintiesse Physalis Pendant Light - Teak Veneer

Named for the papery lantern shape of the physalis flower, this pendant wraps its light source in an open structure of natural teak wood veneer. The result is a warm, sculptural glow that reads as much like a piece of natural form as it does a light fitting, with the veneer's grain and texture doing most of the talking rather than any heavy ornamentation.

The shade is built from natural wood veneer, shaped into the open, layered form that gives the Physalis its name and its light spread. Fine nickel plated aluminium detailing anchors the structure without competing with the wood. Because the veneer is a natural material, expect gentle variation in grain and tone from piece to piece, which is part of its character rather than a flaw. It sits comfortably against warm woods, linen, brass and stone, and works equally well in a pared back scandi style room or a warmer, more textured interior.

How it works

The Physalis takes a single E27 bulb, which is not supplied, so you can choose the warmth and brightness that suits the room. It is compatible with dimmable smart lamps, though dimming will only work if you fit a dimmable bulb. The drop is adjustable across a generous range, from around 524mm down to as little as roughly 3124mm at full extension, so it can be set for anything from a low hung dining table light to a taller stairwell or hallway run. It is rated Class II, so it does not require an earthed connection, though installation should still follow standard wiring safety practice.

Where it works best

At 46cm across and just 2.6kg, this is a light enough fitting to hang confidently over a dining table, kitchen island or living room seating area without visually overwhelming the space. The wide adjustable drop range makes it a good option for rooms with higher ceilings, stairwells or split level spaces, where you can fine tune the hang height to suit the ceiling and the clearance you need underneath. It also suits bedrooms and hallways where a single, characterful pendant can do the work of a feature light.
