Sitting between Atwater's small and large sizes, the medium wall lantern is the size most homes reach for: substantial enough to make a statement by the front door, without overwhelming a standard porch.
The black finish
The medium Atwater is finished in matte black over its weather resistant composite body, with an anti fading treatment that keeps the colour looking fresh rather than chalking or fading over the years, including close to the coast. Curved handle detailing and a scrolled frame give it the character of an old fashioned coach lantern, while the clear seeded glass creates a warm, textured glow rather than a flat beam. Black pairs naturally with red brick, white render, or a painted front door in almost any colour.
How it works
It runs on a single E27 LED bulb, which is not included, fitted behind the seeded glass. Dimming is possible, but only if you choose a dimmable bulb; without one, the fitting will only switch on and off. As a Class I fitting it needs an earthed electrical supply and should be connected up by a qualified electrician. The box includes the lantern only.
Where it works best
At around 44.5cm tall, this size works well either side of a standard front door, on a porch, or beside a garage or side entrance. It's a popular choice for matching pairs either side of an entrance, and its IP44 rating means it's built to handle exposure to wind driven rain in a typical UK porch or covered walkway.
