Quintiesse Anchorage Single Wall Lantern - Aged Zinc

Anchorage takes its cue from an early American maritime lantern, a single light design cast in solid aluminium and dressed in an Aged Zinc finish. It is a compact, characterful fitting for framing a front door or lighting a side passage, with the kind of weathered, storm lantern look that only grows more characterful with age.

The Aged Zinc finish

The Aged Zinc finish is worked over solid aluminium, giving the lantern a soft, weathered grey patina rather than a bright metallic sheen. Quintiesse describes many of its finishes as hand applied, and here that shows in the slightly uneven, aged texture across the frame. A clear glass panel sits within, keeping the bulb visible and the light unobstructed. The combination suits stone, brick or painted render, and works equally well alongside black ironmongery or aged brass door furniture.

How it works

This lantern takes a single E27 bulb (not supplied), so you can choose the colour temperature and brightness that suit your entrance. Fit a dimmable LED and the lantern will dim, without one it will only run at full brightness. It is wired to Class I electrical standards, meaning it must be connected to an earthed supply and installed by a qualified electrician. Its IP44 rating means it is protected against splashing water from any angle, so it is built to live outdoors through the seasons.

Where it works best

At 33.5cm high and weighing 2.2kg, this is a fitting sized for a single door surround, a porch pillar or a narrow side entrance rather than a grand double doorway. Its modest 15.3cm projection keeps it close to the wall, so it will not intrude on a tight path or passageway. It works well either side of a front door used singly, or mirrored for a more traditional, symmetrical look.
