Hung rather than mounted flat, the Alford Place 3 Light Large Chain Lantern brings the same die cast detailing and sealed glass roof as the wall and pedestal versions but on an adjustable chain, so it drops down from a porch or canopy ceiling instead of fixing to a wall.
Museum Black finish
Its cast aluminium body is finished in Museum Black, with clear glass panels that let the three lamps show through clearly rather than diffusing them. Hung against a light coloured porch ceiling or soffit, the dark frame stands out as a clear focal point rather than blending in.
How it works
It takes 3 x E14 bulbs, not supplied, and dims only if dimmable bulbs are fitted. The chain gives an adjustable drop of 61cm to 216.7cm, so it's worth checking that range against your ceiling height and how low you want the lantern to sit before ordering, especially for a stepped porch or covered entrance. It's Class I, so it needs an earthed supply and installation by a qualified electrician, and it's IP44 rated for outdoor use.
Where it works best
This is a fitting for covered porches, entrance canopies or verandas with enough headroom for a hanging lantern, rather than open ground level spaces. Its adjustable drop makes it useful where ceiling heights vary from one entrance to another, since you can set the hang to suit the specific space.
