A Big Idea in a Very Small Aperture
Fade Mini Fixed is proof that architectural quality light does not need a large fitting to deliver it. This trimless downlight from British manufacturer Orluna sits almost flush with the ceiling, leaving only a slim 51mm bezel visible, so the light itself becomes the feature rather than the fixture housing it. At 300lm it is compact by design, built for spaces where a discreet ceiling line matters as much as the quality of the beam.
Choosing Your Configuration
Every Fade Mini Fixed is made to order, so it pays to think through the combination before you specify. The main decisions are the driver, the engine, the colour temperature, the beam and the IP rating.
- Driver: supplied as 0 to 10V Dimming, Dali, Mains Dimming or Non Dimming. Note that the 0 to 10V driver housing does not fit through the 55mm cut out, so it needs to sit above the ceiling void rather than inside it, worth flagging to your electrician early.
- Engine: Origin (General Use) suits everyday ambient lighting, while Origin Natural (Highest Quality) is Orluna's premium engine for rooms where colour accuracy on skin, artwork or fabric really counts.
- Colour temperature: 2700K for a warmer residential feel or 3000K for a slightly crisper, more neutral white.
- Beam angle: narrower options around 18° to 20° throw a tight, defined pool, while 30° to 35° gives a softer, more general spread.
- IP rating: IP54 covers standard dry ceilings, IP65 is the option to choose for bathrooms or areas with occasional damp exposure.
This fitting is finished with a white RAL 9010 bezel and a black baffle as standard. Orluna can quote additional engines, beams and finishes on request if this range does not cover your project.
How It Works
Trimless means there is no visible frame at ceiling level; a plaster in plate is skimmed flush so only the 51mm bezel reads against the finished surface. Behind it, a deep set LED source and black baffle keep the lamp image out of view from normal sightlines, controlling glare rather than just dimming the light. The Fixed version aims straight down with no adjustable mechanism, so the beam is set once during manufacture and stays put. Heat is managed through an aluminium body that draws warmth away from the LED chip, which protects colour output and stops it drifting or fading over time.
Where It Works Best
Fade Mini Fixed is the smallest and simplest fitting in the Fade family, and that makes it well suited to spaces where you want light rather than an adjustable feature: hallways, corridors, wardrobes, ensuites and tight residential ceiling voids where a full size downlight would dominate. Because the beam is fixed rather than aimable, it works best as part of a considered lighting layout rather than for spotlighting a single object, whereas the Adjustable version in the same Mini range is the better choice if you need to redirect light toward art or a feature wall after installation.
Made By Orluna
Orluna is a British lighting manufacturer with an unusual starting point. It was founded in 1973 by a group of aeronautical engineers who applied early LED technology to civil and military uses, where reliability and longevity mattered more than aesthetics. That engineering background still shows in fittings like Fade Mini, which prioritise mechanical precision as much as light quality. In 2009 Andrew Kilborn took the business in a new direction, repositioning it toward high end architectural lighting, and Orluna has since built a reputation among international lighting designers for compact, precisely engineered downlight families.
