Where Glare Isn't an Option
Some spaces cannot tolerate a visible point of light in the ceiling, whether that's a boardroom table, a dining room or a gallery wall. The Curve Recessed Fixed Darklighter is Orluna's answer: a deeper bodied, black baffled variant of the Curve family built specifically to keep the light source itself out of sight while still delivering a clean, usable beam below.
Choosing Your Configuration
The Darklighter shares its core specification range with the standard Curve Fixed, so the same careful choices apply.
- Driver: 0-10V Dimming, Dali, Mains Dimming or Non-Dimming, depending on the control system already in place or planned for the building.
- Engine: Origin (General Use), Origin Natural (Highest Quality) for the most accurate colour rendering, Origin Warm Dim for a tunable output across roughly 1800K to 3000K, and Origin loPro, useful where structural depth is tight even though this fitting already has a deeper recessed body than the standard Fixed.
- Colour temperature: 2700K or 3000K fixed, or the 1800K to 3000K tunable range with Origin Warm Dim.
- Beam: thirteen angles from 18° up to 55°, giving a genuine choice between a tighter, more contained pool of light and a broader, softer wash.
- IP rating: IP54 for dry interiors, IP65 for wetter zones.
- Finish: white (RAL 9010) bezel with a black baffle, the combination that gives this fitting its low glare character.
How It Works
The Darklighter's defining feature is its deeper body, which sets the LED engine further back from the ceiling plane than the standard Curve Fixed. Combined with the black baffle, this recesses the light source out of typical sightlines, so from most viewing angles you see the effect of the light rather than the light itself. Orluna designs its glare control fittings around deep set sources and black baffles for exactly this reason, paired here with the same aluminium heat sink construction used across the Curve range to protect colour consistency over time.
Where It Works Best
This is the Curve variant to choose wherever the fitting will be seen from a low or oblique angle and glare genuinely matters: dining tables, boardroom tables, low seating areas and gallery or retail displays where a visible LED point would be distracting. It suits the same 96mm bezel footprint as the standard Curve Fixed and Adjustable, but trades their shallower profile for meaningfully better glare control, making it the right choice when comfort of view is the priority rather than absolute installation depth.
Made By Orluna
Orluna's approach to light quality goes beyond lumen count. Its Origin Natural engine uses a custom phosphor recipe with typical figures of CRI 98 and R9 99, meaning strong reds render accurately rather than looking flat, alongside a TM-30 Rf of around 97.7 for overall colour fidelity and a TM-30 Rg of around 100.4 so colours look natural without being exaggerated. Fittings are held to 2 step SDCM colour consistency, so multiple units in the same room appear virtually identical, and are rated L90 B5 at 50,000 hours, meaning the large majority retain at least 90 percent of their original output at that point. An independent review in arc magazine described Orluna's output as having well differentiated colours and a clean, soft edged beam without visible imperfections.
