Cloud Mini Butterfly Recessed: Light Without a Trace

Not every ceiling can accommodate a full recessed housing, which is exactly the problem Cloud Mini Butterfly Recessed is built to solve. It uses a spring loaded fixing to hold a compact, adjustable spotlight flush into thin ceiling material, giving the same floating, seamless look as the rest of the Cloud range without needing a deep void behind it.

Choosing your configuration

Configuration choices here mirror the rest of the compact Cloud fittings. Choose the driver based on the control system in place: Dali for scene based or building management control, 0 to 10V Dimming for architectural low voltage systems, Mains Dimming for a standard wall dimmer, or Non-Dimming for a fixed light level. Two engines are available, Origin (General Use) for standard applications and Origin Natural (Highest Quality) where colour needs to be rendered as faithfully as possible. Colour temperature is set at either 2700K or 3000K. Beam angle spans from a narrow 22° through to a wide 49°, giving the choice between a tight accent beam and a broader wash from the same small fitting. IP54 is the rating available. Bezel and baffle both come in Black or White (RAL 9010), so the fitting can sit quietly against either a dark or a pale ceiling.

How It Works

Cloud Mini Butterfly Recessed uses spring loaded butterfly clips behind the ceiling material to grip and hold the fitting in place, rather than screwing into a deep housing recess, which is what allows it to be fitted into shallower ceiling constructions than some recessed alternatives. The housing itself is 43mm in diameter, with a cut out ranging from 52mm to 58mm to allow for slight variation in ceiling thickness and material. Once fitted, a 360° rotation and 90° tilt mechanism lets the beam be aimed precisely, and the same aluminium construction found throughout the Cloud range manages heat from the LED engine to protect long term performance.

Where It Works Best

This is the fitting to specify where ceiling depth or structure will not accommodate a standard recessed housing but a fully recessed, adjustable look is still wanted, common in retrofit and renovation projects, older buildings, or thinner modern ceiling constructions. Compared with Cloud Mini Trimless Recessed, which uses a flush trim free fixing, Mini Butterfly Recessed achieves a very similar seamless appearance through a different, more forgiving fixing method, making it a useful practical substitute where the trimless fixing is not suitable for the ceiling in question.
