Raw Brass, Built to Earn Its Story
Raw Brass is the Cargo Wall Light at its most honest, unlacquered metal straight from the workshop, bright and coppery gold on day one and free to darken, spot and streak however the weather decides. Fit it somewhere it will actually get rained on and within a season or two it starts to look like it has always belonged there, which is rather the point of choosing raw metal over a sealed finish.
How It Works
The fixture is solid brass throughout, with no lacquer holding back the natural ageing process, and it carries an IP64 rating so it copes well with driving rain and salt spray on an open wall. A single ES/E27 lamp holder sits behind a clear ribbed glass diffuser, which softens the light source into a gentler, more even glow rather than a hard point of brightness. The cable enters at the rear through a cable gland, keeping the wiring tucked out of sight once the fixture is mounted.
Where It Works Best
This finish rewards patience and a genuinely exposed spot, a boat house, an open jetty wall, a coastal cottage porch, anywhere the natural darkening and occasional green flecking of raw brass will feel like a feature rather than a fault. Within the Cargo range it sits opposite Mirror Nickel and Satin Nickel, which are chosen precisely because they will not change, and it ages a stage further than Antique Brass, which starts the story already partway through. Set next to other Navigator models such as Wellington or Palaemon, Cargo keeps a low, close fitting bulkhead form that suits tighter porches better than a projecting lantern shape would.

Questions People Ask
Is Raw Brass supposed to change colour outdoors? Yes, that is the whole appeal of this finish. Left unlacquered, it will darken and can develop light green patina flecks over time, which most people choose it for rather than try to avoid.
Can I stop the Raw Brass finish from ageing if I prefer the bright look? You can slow it with regular waxing and cleaning, though it will still shift gradually. If you would rather it stayed consistent, Satin Nickel or Mirror Nickel are better suited to that.
Is the Navigator Cargo Wall Light in Raw Brass suitable for a fully exposed exterior wall? Yes, it holds an IP64 rating, which covers protection from dust and water coming from any angle, so it is fine for open porches and unsheltered walls.
