A Lantern Built to Earn Its Own Patina
Named after the tiller of a boat, the arm that steers the rudder, this lantern is made for a life spent outdoors rather than behind glass. In Raw Brass it leaves the workshop unlacquered, so from the moment it is fitted the metal is free to react to salt air, rain and handling in its own way. No two will age quite the same, which is really the point of choosing it in this finish.
How It Works
The body is cast from solid brass and fitted with a clear ribbed glass diffuser that spreads the light with a gentle prismatic effect rather than one harsh point. It carries an IP64 rating, so it is built to be fixed to an exterior wall in the open, not just under cover. The rear of the wall plate takes the cable entry, keeping wiring hidden once mounted, and it runs on a single ES / E27 lamp, not supplied, up to 7W.
Where It Works Best
Raw Brass suits anyone who likes the idea of a fitting changing with them over time: it will darken and develop a richer, more varied tone as it is exposed to weather and touch, especially in a coastal setting where the sea air speeds that process along. Compare it with its siblings and the difference is clear. Antique Brass starts with that aged look already built in, while Satin Nickel holds a steady cool grey with no patina process at all. Choose Raw Brass if you want the finish to keep evolving on your wall rather than staying fixed from day one.

Questions People Ask
Does Raw Brass tarnish once it is fitted outside? Yes, that is expected and part of the finish. Unlacquered brass reacts to air and weather and will darken and deepen in tone over time rather than staying bright.
Can I stop the Raw Brass Tiller lantern from patinating if I prefer the original look? You can slow the process with a clear protective wax or occasional cleaning, though most people choose Raw Brass because they want that natural change to happen.
How does Raw Brass compare to the Antique Brass version of this lantern? Antique Brass arrives with an aged tone already worked into the finish, while Raw Brass starts bright and develops its own character on your wall over months and years.
