Every Navigator light borrows its name from the language of the sea, and Pharos carries that history well. This up and down wall light throws a soft wash of light both above and below the fitting, marking doorways, gateposts and terraces the way a beacon once marked a headland. In Raw Brass it arrives with the bare, unlacquered warmth of the metal itself. There is no coating holding the weather back here, so the surface begins to shift within weeks, taking on soft ambers, deeper browns and eventually a dry, matte patina as it meets salt air, rain and sun. Some owners rub it back to a brighter shine now and then, others let the change run its course. Either way, no two Raw Brass fittings look quite the same twelve months on.

How It Works

The body is cast from solid brass, chosen for how well it resists corrosion even in properly exposed coastal spots. Power enters through a cable gland fitted to the rear mounting plate, so the cabling stays hidden and the seal stays weathertight once installed. Inside, two GU10 lamp holders sit back to back, one aimed up and one aimed down, splitting the beam into two distinct pools of light rather than one flat wash. The fitting carries an IP64 rating, protected against dust and against water splashed from any direction, so covered porches, open walls and exposed gables all sit within its comfort zone. Lamps are not included, which leaves the choice of colour temperature and brightness entirely up to you.

Where It Works Best

Pharos suits spots where you want light to do two jobs at once, washing a wall texture from below while lifting the space above a doorway or window. Think entrance porches, garden walls, pillars either side of a gate, or the run along a garage or boathouse. Because Raw Brass is the least protected of the Navigator finishes on offer, it tends to be chosen by people who actively want that living, weathering look rather than a fitting that stays static for years, in contrast to Antique Brass, which starts life already aged and changes far more slowly, or Satin Nickel, which holds a cool, consistent tone throughout its life. Questions People Ask

Does the Raw Brass finish change colour over time?
Yes, that is rather the point of it. Raw Brass carries no protective lacquer, so it darkens and develops a natural patina as it meets the weather, and this happens faster outdoors than it would indoors.

Can Pharos be fitted somewhere exposed to direct rain?
Its IP64 rating means it is protected against water splashed from any angle, so an open wall or exposed gable is fine, though a covered porch will slow the ageing of Raw Brass if you would rather it stayed brighter for longer.

What bulbs does Pharos take?
Two GU10 lamps, one facing up and one facing down. They are not supplied with the fitting, so you can choose the warmth and brightness that suits the space.
