Already Aged, Already at Home
Antique Brass is the finish for anyone who does not want to wait years for their outdoor lighting to look like it belongs. Instead of starting bright and slowly weathering, this version of the Navigator Merchant Flush Bulkhead is treated to arrive with a deeper, darkened tone already worked into the surface, echoing the fittings you would find on a working harbour building that has seen a few decades of salt air. It has the settled, slightly shadowed look of old ship's hardware, and it sits flush and close against the wall rather than jutting out, so it reads like it was always part of the building rather than added on afterwards.
How It Works
Every finish in the Merchant Flush Bulkhead range shares the same build. The body is solid brass, valued in coastal fittings because it shrugs off salt laden air far better than plated steel or aluminium. It takes a single ES / E27 lamp, sold separately, so you are free to fit the bulb colour temperature you prefer. Wiring feeds in through the rear via a polyamide back plate, which keeps the connection sheltered and the fixing neat against the wall. A clear ribbed glass diffuser covers the lamp, letting the light spread softly rather than glaring, and with an IP64 rating, it is built to stay watertight and reliable through wind driven rain and general outdoor exposure.
Where It Works Best
This finish suits period cottages, listed buildings, harbourside pubs and any property where a brand new, shiny fitting would look out of place next to old brick or weathered render. Because the Merchant Flush measures only 80mm in depth, it is particularly useful on narrow porches, boot rooms and tight entrance ways where the deeper, glass fronted Merchant Bulkhead elsewhere in the Navigator range simply will not clear the space. Where the Raw Brass version will slowly darken to a similar tone over time and Satin Nickel stays cool and consistent, Antique Brass gives you that aged character from the day it goes up.

Questions People Ask
What's the difference between Antique Brass and Raw Brass on this light?
Raw Brass starts pale and gradually darkens outdoors as it weathers. Antique Brass is finished from the start with that deeper, aged tone already built in, so there is no waiting for the look to develop.
Will an Antique Brass fitting cope with a house that gets a lot of coastal weather?
Yes. The solid brass body is chosen for its resistance to salt air, and the fixture carries an IP64 rating, making it suitable for exposed walls near the sea.
Does the antique finish continue to change once it is fitted outside?
It will settle further and deepen slightly with continued exposure, in the same way old brass fittings do, but it begins life already looking established rather than brand new.
