A Bulkhead Light That Starts Golden And Earns Its Character
The Navigator Horatio Junior Bulkhead in Raw Brass is the finish for anyone who likes watching a fixture change with the seasons. Fresh out of the box it has a bright, almost coppery gold sheen, and left to the coastal air it will slowly darken and develop its own patina, no two lights ageing quite the same way. If you want a light that tells the story of the building it hangs on, this is the one to pick.
How It Works
Behind that living finish is a solid brass housing wrapped around a clear prismatic glass diffuser, which softens the light rather than letting it glare. It carries an IP64 rating, so wind driven rain and salt laden air are well within its comfort zone. A single E27 (Edison screw) lamp up to 18W runs the fixture, not supplied, leaving you free to choose your preferred colour temperature. Wiring can enter from the end or the rear, with a brass blank fitted as standard to close off whichever route you do not use.
Where It Works Best
As the smaller sibling in the Horatio range, the Junior suits compact porches, garden gates, boot rooms and narrow exterior corridors where the full sized Horatio bulkhead would simply be too much fixture. Raw brass in particular is popular on new builds and freshly rendered facades, since it gives an otherwise crisp, modern elevation an instant sense of maritime character, and keeps developing that character for years after installation rather than staying static like a lacquered finish would.

Questions People Ask
Will the raw brass finish tarnish or change colour over time? Yes, and that is by design. Raw Brass is left unlacquered, so exposure to air and moisture will gradually darken it into a warm, uneven patina rather than staying bright and shiny.
How many watts can I run in the Horatio Junior bulkhead? The fixture is rated for a single E27 lamp of up to 18W, so most standard LED lamps in that socket type will be well within range.
Can the Horatio Junior be used indoors as well as outdoors? It can. Many customers fit it in porches and corridors as well as fully exposed exterior walls, since the IP64 rating covers both sheltered indoor use and splashing rain outside.
