How It Works

Behind the porthole glass sits a single E27 (ES) lamp holder, with a prismatic diffuser that spreads the light out rather than throwing a harsh single point of glare. The body is solid brass, built to IP64 for genuine outdoor use, so wind and rain will not trouble it once it is fixed and wired. Cable gland entry comes in through the side as standard, and the porthole glass is held with thumb turns, meaning a lamp change is a quick twist rather than a job needing a screwdriver.

Where It Works Best

At 210mm across, this is the smaller of the two Navigator porthole sizes, so it suits doorways, boot rooms, garden gates and narrow exterior passages where the Navigator Large Porthole Bulkhead would be too much fitting for the space. Raw Brass in particular tends to suit newer builds, coastal render and timber cladding, where its bright, evolving finish reads as fresh rather than heritage, unlike the pre aged Antique Brass version of the same fixture. It also works well grouped with other unlacquered Navigator pieces, such as the Hull or Tiller, so the whole run ages together at the same rate.

Raw Brass is left unlacquered on purpose, so it darkens and develops a natural patina with weather exposure. This is expected and part of the finish's character rather than a fault.

Can the Small Cabin Porthole Bulkhead be fitted somewhere sheltered like a covered porch?
Yes, though it is rated IP64 for direct outdoor exposure, so it copes just as well fully exposed on an open wall as it does under a porch roof.
