Brass That Tells Its Own Story
Raw Brass is the finish for anyone who wants to watch a fitting change over the years rather than keep it looking brand new. The Navigator Hull Guard Pendant Lantern in Raw Brass arrives bright and warm, then slowly deepens into a richer, more textured tone as it meets the air and the weather outside your door. Every mark it picks up becomes part of its character, in the same way a ship's brass fittings age at sea.
How It Works
Solid brass forms the body of the lantern, paired with a clear, ribbed glass diffuser that breaks the light into a soft, layered glow rather than one flat beam. An IP54 rating means it is built to cope with rain blown in at an angle, so it sits happily above a porch, a covered patio or a sheltered side entrance. It holds a single ES / E27 lamp, up to 18W and not supplied, and dims smoothly if you fit a dimmable LED. The lantern comes with 500mm of chain that can be shortened or extended, giving an overall drop of roughly 400mm at its shortest and up to 830mm at full length, with a ceiling cup supplied for a straightforward fit.
Where It Works Best
Raw Brass suits homes where a natural, evolving finish is part of the appeal, from coastal cottages to converted barns and reclaimed brick fronts. It asks the least of the three finishes in terms of upkeep, since the brass simply ages on its own with no polishing required. Choose it over Antique Brass if you would rather your lantern develop its own unique patina than start with one already applied, and choose it over Satin Nickel if warmth and depth matter more to you than a cool, uniform sheen.

Questions People Ask
Does raw brass tarnish or change colour over time?
Yes, and that is exactly the appeal. Raw Brass darkens and develops a natural patina as it is exposed to air and weather, so each lantern takes on its own individual character.
How long is the chain on the Hull Guard pendant, and can it be adjusted?
It comes with 500mm of chain that can be shortened or lengthened during installation, taking the total drop from around 400mm up to a maximum of 830mm.
Is the Raw Brass Hull Guard lantern suitable for a covered porch?
Yes, thanks to its IP54 rating it is designed for covered outdoor entrances such as porches and canopies, rather than spots left fully exposed to the weather.
