Navigator Mini Compass Guard Bulkhead in Living Raw Brass
Raw brass is the finish for anyone who likes a fitting that keeps writing its own story. Left unlacquered, this Navigator Mini Compass Guard Bulkhead starts out bright and golden, then slowly mellows into a deeper, richer tone as salt air and weather work on it, so no two fittings ever age quite the same way. The chunky wire guard around the glass gives it a working, industrial edge that suits exposed brick, weathered timber cladding or a boat house wall.
How It Works
The body is solid, unlacquered brass, so nothing is sealed over the metal and it is free to change colour naturally outdoors. It is IP44 rated for splashing water from any direction, and a wire guard protects the clear ribbed glass diffuser from knocks in busier spots. It takes a single G9 lamp, and cabling runs in through a gland entry at the side of the fitting for a tidy finish once mounted.
Where It Works Best
Raw brass suits gates, boat houses, sheds and new builds with an exposed, industrial style, anywhere an owner wants the finish to visibly age and settle into its surroundings. It is the only finish in this range that keeps changing after installation, unlike satin nickel, which holds a fixed cool tone, or antique brass, which arrives already warmed and stays close to that look. Choose raw brass if you want a fitting that feels different in five years' time to how it looks on day one.

Questions People Ask
Will raw brass change colour once it is fitted outdoors?
Yes, and that is really the point of choosing it. Left unlacquered, it will gradually darken and develop a natural patina in the weather, giving each fitting its own individual look over time.
Can raw brass be polished back to its original bright finish?
It can, since there is no lacquer sealing the metal. A brass polish will bring back the brighter tone if you ever prefer that over the patina, though many owners choose to let it develop naturally instead.
Does the guard cage actually protect the glass in exposed spots?
Yes, the wire guard sits proud of the ribbed glass diffuser, adding a layer of physical protection for fittings mounted somewhere more exposed, such as a gate, boat house or low garden wall.
