Old Brass Soul, Right From the Box
The Wellington Grand Post Lantern in Antique Brass looks like it has already lived a life by the sea. Rather than waiting years for a patina to develop, this finish arrives with that deep, aged brass character built in, all warm bronze tones and soft shadow in the ribs of the glass. Hang it either side of a gate pier or a grand front door and it reads instantly as established, the kind of fitting that looks like it belongs to the house rather than one just fitted to it.
How It Works
Underneath the finish this is solid brass, chosen specifically because it resists the corrosion that ordinary metals suffer outdoors. A clear ribbed glass diffuser wraps the lamp, scattering the light rather than throwing a single glare, and the whole fixture carries an IP54 rating so it copes with rain, wind driven spray and general weather without fuss. It takes a single ES/E27 lamp (not supplied) and is LED compatible if you want a longer life bulb with lower running costs. This is a Class 1 fixture, so it must be wired with an earth connection, and the cable enters neatly through the base for a tidy installation with no visible wiring.
Where It Works Best
This is the largest lantern in the Wellington family, so it suits a proper entrance: gate piers, porch columns, driveway gate posts, anywhere you want scale and presence rather than a modest wall light. The Antique Brass finish in particular tends to work best on period homes, cottages and anywhere a traditional or coastal character is already established, since it complements aged stone and weathered render. Set beside the Raw Brass version, which starts pale and darkens naturally with age, the Antique Brass gives you that mellow look from day one. Beside the Satin Nickel option, which leans cooler and more contemporary, this finish is the warmer, more traditional choice of the three.

Questions People Ask
Is the Antique Brass Wellington Grand Post Lantern suitable for a coastal home?
Yes. It is made from solid brass rather than a metal that will rust, and it carries an IP54 rating, so salt laden air and exposed positions are exactly what it is designed for.
What bulb does this lantern take?
A single ES/E27 lamp, which is not supplied with the fixture. It is LED compatible, so you can fit a low energy lamp of your choice.
Do I need to polish or maintain the Antique Brass finish?
No. Unlike Raw Brass, which changes character as it weathers, the Antique Brass finish is already aged and needs no upkeep to keep its look.
