A Little Piece of the Shoreline for Your Wall
There is something about a porthole shape that says coastal before you have even switched it on, and the Grand Cabin captures that feeling perfectly in solid brass left completely raw. This is brass in its purest state, with no lacquer and no plating between the metal and the weather. Straight out of the box it has a bright, almost golden warmth, and left outdoors it will slowly deepen and darken as it reacts naturally to salt air and rain, taking on the kind of soft, mottled patina that no factory finish can fake. If you like the idea of a fitting that ages the way an old ship fitting would, this is the version to choose.
How It Works
Underneath that classic round shape is a genuinely practical outdoor fitting. The body is cast in solid brass and paired with a clear ribbed glass diffuser that spreads light evenly across a wall rather than throwing a single glaring beam. It carries an IP64 rating, so it is protected against dust and against water splashed from any direction, which suits an exposed wall well. It takes one ES / E27 lamp, not included, so you can pick the exact colour temperature and brightness you want, including an LED lamp for lower running costs. Cable entry runs through a gland at the end or rear of the fitting, and a brass blank is included so you can seal off whichever entry point you are not using.
Where It Works Best
Think of anywhere that could use a bit of maritime character: either side of a harbourside front door, along a boathouse wall, flanking a garden gate, or marking the entrance to a coastal courtyard. Because raw brass patinates rather than staying pristine, it suits anyone who wants their lighting to develop genuine character with age, unlike the Antique Brass version of this same Grand Cabin, which arrives already looking weathered, or the Satin Nickel option, which keeps a cool, consistent tone for a cleaner, more contemporary look. If you are lighting a whole run of walls or several buildings on the same site, Raw Brass is the finish that will visibly change and settle into a matching patina as each fitting weathers at roughly the same pace.

Questions People Ask
Does the raw brass finish need any upkeep to stop it tarnishing?
No upkeep is needed. Raw brass is meant to tarnish and patinate once it is outdoors, and that gradual colour change is exactly what this finish is designed to do. If you would rather keep a bright, uniform brass tone permanently, the Antique Brass or Satin Nickel versions of the Grand Cabin are a better match.
How big is the Grand Cabin porthole bulkhead light?
It measures 240mm across and projects 100mm from the wall, so it reads as a proper statement bulkhead rather than a small accent fitting.
Is this light strong enough for a coastal or seafront wall?
Yes. Its IP64 rating and solid, unlacquered brass build were chosen specifically so it can take salt laden air, driving rain and constant sun without any extra protective housing.
