Raw Brass, Ready to Weather Beautifully
The Palaemon North Bulkhead in raw brass arrives pale and bright, closer to gold than bronze, and that is only the start of its story. Left unlacquered, this metal is free to react to salt air and rain the way ship fittings always have, slowly deepening into a rich, mottled patina that no two fixtures will share. If you like the idea of a light that ages with its surroundings rather than staying frozen in time, this is the finish built for you.
How It Works
Underneath that living finish is a solid brass body paired with a prismatic ribbed glass diffuser, so the light that reaches your path or porch is softened and spread rather than glaring. The fitting is rated IP64, meaning it shrugs off water splashed from any direction, and it takes a single E27 (ES) lamp up to 18W, including dimmable bulbs where you want finer control over the mood. Cabling can enter through a side gland or through the rear, and a brass blanking plate is included to seal off whichever entry point you do not use. A separate conduit adaptor is available if your installation calls for one.
Where It Works Best
Because raw brass changes so visibly with exposure, it suits spots where you want that transformation on display, an exposed harbour wall, a boat store, a porch that takes the brunt of coastal weather. Set it beside the antique brass Palaemon North and you will notice this one starts several shades lighter and keeps moving toward that aged look over months rather than arriving there already. Choose the satin nickel sibling instead if you would rather the tone stayed cool and constant against a rendered or painted wall. As part of the wider Navigator family, this eyelid style bulkhead reads a little more nautical than the round porthole designs in the range, so it earns its keep on gateposts, entrance porches and garden walls alike.

Questions People Ask
Will raw brass tarnish once it is fitted outside?
Yes, and that is exactly the point of choosing it. Raw brass has no protective lacquer, so it reacts naturally to air and moisture and develops a deeper, uneven patina over time rather than staying showroom bright.
What bulb does the Palaemon North Bulkhead take?
It takes a single E27 (Edison screw) lamp up to 18W. The lamp is not supplied, so you can choose warm white, cool white or a dimmable bulb to suit the space.
Is this bulkhead light safe to fit somewhere exposed to rain and sea air?
Yes. It carries an IP64 rating, which protects against water splashed from any direction, making it a sound choice for coastal walls, porches and pathways.
