Raw Brass: Let the Coast Do the Finishing
Raw Brass is the Navigator Mast Wall Light in its most honest form, uncoated and bright gold from day one. Left outside, it will slowly darken and pick up its own patina from salt air, rain and sun, so no two of these lights end up looking quite the same after a year or two on the wall. It suits anyone who likes their brass to earn its character rather than have it applied at the factory.
How It Works
Cast from solid brass, this fixture is built to cope with life outdoors, carrying an IP54 rating and a single GU10 lamp holder that takes bulbs up to 40W (lamp not supplied). The cable enters from the rear, keeping the wiring concealed once mounted, and its small, compact shape means it can be fixed to a wall, gatepost or porch surround without needing extra bracketry.
Where It Works Best
Raw Brass suits coastal cottages, boat sheds and courtyard walls where an evolving, patinated look is part of the appeal, entranceways and boundary walls both let that natural weathering show. Compared with Antique Brass, which starts already toned down, Raw Brass gives you the full journey from bright gold to mellow bronze. Compared with Satin Nickel, it offers warmth and a material that visibly changes, rather than a consistent cool silver finish.

Questions People Ask
Does raw brass need polishing to stay looking good outside?
No, most people let it darken naturally. If you want to slow the patina, an occasional wipe with brass polish will keep it brighter for longer, though it is not required.
How long does it take for raw brass to darken outdoors?
It varies with local weather and how exposed the wall is, coastal air speeds things up, but expect visible changes within months rather than years.
Can this light go somewhere sheltered instead of fully exposed to the weather?
Yes, its IP54 rating and solid brass build suit both exposed walls and more sheltered spots such as porches, though a sheltered position will slow the natural patina process.
