Mullan Vernon Raffia Wall Light with Finish Options

Vernon Raffia Wall Light, the striped pendant's wall mounted partner

The Vernon Raffia Wall Light shares its shade with the Vernon pendant, a two tone raffia weave that alternates between contrasting natural tones to create a bold, hand woven stripe. Measuring 54cm high and 54cm wide, with a 20cm projection from the wall, it has a generous drum shape that reads as a real feature rather than a background fitting. A brass fixing plate keeps the look consistent with the rest of the Vernon range, so it pairs easily with the pendant version in the same room.

How It Works

A single 40W E27 bulb sits inside the shade, and its light escapes through the woven raffia both upward and downward along the wall, softened and slightly striped by the two tone banding. Because the shade sits close to the wall, you get a warm pool of light with a textured edge rather than a hard beam. Use a dimmable bulb if you want to move between a brighter light and a low, relaxed glow later in the evening.

Where It Works Best

At 54cm across, this wall light makes sense either side of a bed as a pair, flanking a fireplace, or spaced along a hallway or staircase wall where its width and texture can be appreciated at eye level. It also suits a dressing room or walk in wardrobe, where the warm, textured light complements soft furnishings. Combine it with linen, rattan or timber furniture to echo the natural raffia finish.

The Story Behind Mullan

In 2009, architect Mike Treanor set about restoring a derelict nineteenth century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and in doing so laid the foundation for Mullan Lighting. The studio has since grown to more than 100 craftspeople, exporting its designs to over 55 countries around the world. While Mullan is well known for its ceramic lighting, the team has also spent time developing pieces in other natural materials, and this raffia range is a product of that exploration, bringing texture and warmth into the home.
