The Senna Ceiling Light in Matte White Striped is a 23cm tall, 12cm wide handmade ceramic ceiling fitting with a taller, more cylindrical presence on the ceiling than the broader, flatter Pyrus or Kapok forms. At 23cm tall it reads as a more architectural, sculptural object overhead — particularly noticeable in rooms with higher ceilings where a flatter fitting would feel insufficient. The matte white ground and fine hand painted stripes give it a clean, considered quality that works equally well in contemporary minimal and more traditional interior settings. Every shade is painted individually at Mullan Village before firing, which means the striping carries the natural variation of a handmade piece.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room. The matte white surface reflects light cleanly at the ceramic rim, brightening the ceiling area around the fitting. The taller cylindrical form creates a more focused, concentrated pool of light below compared to a broad flat shade. Compatible with dimmable E27 bulbs for full mood control.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The matte white striped finish reflects the bleached stone and whitewashed plaster of the historic buildings surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 suits the matte white striped finish well.

How does this differ from the Pyrus Ceiling Light?
The Senna is taller (23cm vs 10cm) and more cylindrical in form, giving it a more architectural presence overhead and a more focused, concentrated pool of light below. The Pyrus is broader and flatter, casting a wider spread. Both are in the Matte White Striped finish.

Will the stripes be perfectly even?
No, and that is intentional. The stripes are hand painted so there is natural variation in width and spacing.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Senna Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones.
