The Savannah Large Wall Light Puts a Bell Shaped Shade on an Adjustable Arm
This wall light carries the same flared, bell shaped rattan shade as the Savannah Large Pendant, 34.5cm across, but mounts it on a brass arm that extends from 45cm to 65cm in height and projects between 70cm and 90cm out from the wall. The result is a fitting that combines a genuinely sculptural shade with the flexibility of an adjustable wall arm.
How It Works
The arm can be extended further into the room or drawn back close to the wall, and angled to aim the light where it is needed, whether that is down onto a sofa, out across a room, or up toward the ceiling. Inside the bell shaped shade, a single E27 bulb sends light out through the rattan weave, spreading a little wider near the base of the shade thanks to its flare. The bulb is not included, and the fitting dims smoothly with a dimmable bulb.
Where It Works Best
Its generous 34.5cm shade and long reach suit a living room either side of a sofa, a main bedroom in place of a bedside lamp, or a hallway that needs a single striking fitting rather than a run of downlights. It is substantial enough to work as a room's main light source in a smaller space.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by Mike Treanor, an architect who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, and turned it into the studio's home. That studio now employs more than 100 craftspeople and exports to more than 55 countries. The bell shaped Savannah shades, hand woven from natural rattan, are part of Mullan's broader exploration of sustainable, biodegradable materials.
