Red Iron: Earthy Warmth With a Twin Bulb Output

The Sakura Wall Light in Red Iron is a 29cm tall, 11cm wide handmade ceramic wall fitting with the warm, earthy intensity of the red iron finish and a distinctive twin E27 bulb configuration that delivers a broader, more even light output than single bulb wall lights. The iron tones ranging from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre are applied by hand at Mullan Village and fixed through firing, with natural variation preserved from piece to piece. No two shades come out of the kiln looking identical. With warm E27 bulbs in the evening the red iron tones deepen and enrich, adding a warmth to the wall that fills the room.

How It Works

The Sakura Wall Light takes 2 x E27 bulbs, directed outward and downward through the ceramic shade. Both bulbs should be the same type and wattage. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is strongly recommended for both sockets. The twin bulb configuration delivers a noticeably broader spread of warm, earthy light across the wall and into the room.

The Red Iron Sakura is at home in dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms and hallways where earthy warmth on a wall is valued and a higher light output is wanted alongside the decorative quality of a genuine handmade ceramic fitting. It pairs particularly well with antique brass, aged timber, terracotta tiles, dark stone and warm woven textiles.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish in direct response to the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the County Monaghan landscape. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

Why does this wall light take two bulbs?
The Sakura takes 2 x E27 bulbs, both directed through the same shade, giving a brighter, more even light output than a single bulb fitting of the same size.

Will my wall light look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The red iron finish is hand applied and fired so depth of colour and surface texture vary naturally between pieces.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Sakura Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones.

Can I use dimmable bulbs?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulbs not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
