Blue Earth: Natural Colour With a Twin Bulb Output
The Sakura Wall Light in Blue Earth is a 29cm tall, 11cm wide handmade ceramic wall fitting with the layered teal and ocean tones of the blue earth finish and a distinctive twin E27 bulb configuration that delivers a broader, more even light output than single bulb wall lights. The colour is applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing, building up differently across every individual piece. In natural daylight the blue earth reads as cool and aquatic. With warm E27 bulbs in the evening the deeper blues and greens within the glaze come forward, adding natural colour and warmth to the wall in equal measure.
How It Works
The Sakura Wall Light takes 2 x E27 bulbs, directed outward and downward through the ceramic shade. Both bulbs should be the same type and wattage. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is recommended for both sockets to bring out the richer tones within the blue earth glaze in the evening.
Where It Works Best
The Blue Earth Sakura suits living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways where natural colour on a wall is wanted alongside a higher light output than a single bulb fitting can provide. The blue earth finish pairs particularly well with natural stone, pale timber, limewash plaster and warm neutral walls.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the blue earth finish as a translation of the blues and greens of the Irish landscape into a hand painted ceramic glaze. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

Why does this wall light take two bulbs?
The Sakura takes 2 x E27 bulbs, both directed through the same shade, giving a brighter, more even light output than a single bulb fitting of the same size.
Do both bulbs need to match?
Yes. Use the same type and wattage in both sockets. A matched pair of warm white dimmable LED E27s is recommended.
Will the colour look exactly like the photos?
The blue earth finish is hand applied in layers so the exact depth and distribution of colour varies naturally between pieces.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Sakura Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones.
Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
