The handmade ceramic shade is formed and finished at the Mullan Village ceramics studio in County Monaghan, Ireland, with the matte white ground and hand painted striped detail creating a fitting that feels both contemporary and deeply crafted. The stripe is never mechanical — each shade is painted individually by hand, so the detailing carries the kind of natural variation that speaks immediately of genuine artisan work.

Behind every Mullan ceramic fitting is a story worth knowing. Founder Mike Treanor, an architect by training, established Mullan Lighting in 2009 inside the ruins of a 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, a settlement whose very name derives from muileann, the Irish word for mill. The ceramics branch of the business was developed to carry on the centuries old tradition of Mullan as a community of makers, and ceramicist Stephen Kieran brought that vision to life through a collection of finishes and forms that draw directly from the Irish countryside and the village's industrial heritage. Today the studio employs over 100 people and its work is found in more than 55 countries.

The Rivale Matte White Striped wall light is well suited to bedrooms, where it can be used as a bedside alternative to table lamps, freeing up surface space while adding a sculptural element to the wall. In living rooms it works as part of a layered lighting scheme, and in hallways it adds warmth and texture to what can otherwise be a purely functional space. The matte white finish sits beautifully against virtually any wall colour but particularly excels against warm whites, soft greys, pale stone and natural lime plaster finishes.

Choose from a range of glass options and metal fittings including antique brass, antique silver, matte black, polished brass and satin brass. Made to order in Mullan Village using sustainable clay and recycled brass, with an approximate three week lead time. This is handmade Irish ceramic wall lighting at its most refined.
