Blue Earth and Glass — Natural Colour on Your Wall
The Rivale Wall Light in Blue Earth brings the layered teal and ocean tones of the blue earth ceramic finish to a side-mounted wall fitting with a choice of clear, frosted or opal glass. The ceramic shade is formed and hand painted at Mullan Village before firing, building up differently across every individual piece. In natural daylight the blue earth reads as cool and aquatic. With a warm G9 bulb in the evening the deeper blues and greens within the glaze come forward. The shade faces outward and slightly downward, the glass and ceramic combining to create a quality of light and colour on the wall that a plain shade could never match.
How It Works
The G9 lamp sits inside the glass shade. Clear glass shows the blue earth ceramic most vividly from the front and gives the most defined directional light. Frosted glass softens the spread and creates a warmer ambient wash. Opal glass gives the most even diffused glow, allowing the blue earth ceramic body to read as a quietly glowing object on the wall. A warm white dimmable G9 LED is recommended to bring out the richer tones of the blue earth finish in the evening.
Where It Works Best
The Blue Earth Rivale Wall Light is well suited to bedrooms, living rooms and hallways where natural colour on a wall at the right height adds genuine character. Either side of a headboard it creates a considered bedside lighting arrangement that frees up surface space. It pairs particularly well with natural stone, pale timber, limewash plaster and warm neutral walls, and works with brushed, antique brass and satin metal hardware finishes.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the blue earth finish as a translation of the blues and greens of the Irish landscape into a hand painted ceramic glaze. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

Which glass works best with the Blue Earth finish?
Clear glass shows the ceramic colour most vividly and gives the most defined light. Opal glass softens everything and lets the blue earth tones glow beautifully from within. Frosted is a reliable middle ground for most rooms.
Will the colour look exactly like the photos?
The blue earth finish is hand applied in layers so the exact depth and distribution of colour varies naturally between pieces. Your fitting will be tonally consistent with the photos but will have its own particular character.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Rivale Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
Can I return it?
Yes. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us to arrange.
