Red Iron is one of those finishes that photographs well but looks even better in real life. On the Mullan Rivale Pendant it brings a warm, earthy intensity to the ceramic shade that is impossible to replicate in any factory made fitting. The surface carries the natural variation of hand painted clay, with the red iron tones shifting in depth and richness across the shade as light plays across it throughout the day. It is a finish rooted in the landscape around Mullan Village, inspired by the iron rich soils and aged stone that characterise that part of County Monaghan, Ireland.
Mullan Lighting has been handcrafting ceramic lights in Mullan Village since 2009, when founder and architect Mike Treanor began restoring an abandoned 19th century flax mill to house his growing studio. What started as a single room operation has expanded into a facility employing over 100 skilled craftspeople, producing lights that are exported to more than 55 countries. The ceramic pendants, wall lights and table lamps are all made to order, shaped and painted by hand, and fired in the studio kiln before being dispatched. No two pieces are ever precisely the same, which means every Rivale that leaves Mullan is genuinely unique.
The Rivale Red Iron pendant is a natural above a solid timber dining table, where the warmth of the finish echoes the natural material below. It works equally well in a kitchen with warm stone worktops, a living room with earthy tones in the soft furnishings, or a bedroom where you want depth and texture rather than a clinical white shade. The pendant also suits commercial and hospitality interiors particularly well, where the handcrafted quality and earthy palette create the kind of atmosphere that guests notice and remember.
Available with a choice of glass shade options and a range of metal fittings including antique brass, antique silver, matte black, polished brass and satin brass. Made using sustainable clay and recycled brass components at Mullan Village, with approximately three weeks from order to delivery. This is handmade Irish ceramic pendant lighting at its most characterful.
