The Mullan Rivale Pendant in Marbled finish is a handmade ceramic and glass pendant that combines the timeless visual quality of hand painted marbled ceramic with a choice of glass shade for additional light quality and visual refinement. The ceramic body is formed and painted by hand at the studio in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, with the swirling tones of cream, warm grey and natural stone applied individually to every piece before firing. Paired with clear, frosted or opal glass, the Rivale Marbled becomes a pendant with genuine layered character — the organic quality of the marbled ceramic balanced by the more controlled, refined quality of the glass shade. Every piece is unique because the marbling is always painted by hand.
Mullan Lighting was established in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor inside a restored 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the marbling technique drawing on the layered stone and mineral textures of the Irish landscape, and the Rivale pendant range pairs this ceramic quality with glass shade options for pendants with greater visual depth and light quality control. Every piece is made entirely to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass, and the studio distributes to more than 55 countries.
The Rivale Marbled pendant is a natural above a dining table or kitchen island, where the combination of marbled ceramic and glass creates a warm and layered quality of light and visual interest. The marbled finish works across a very wide range of interior palettes and hardware combinations, and the glass shade options allow you to tune the light quality to the room.
