The Rivale in Marbled finish pairs the swirling, hand-painted character of marbled ceramic with a choice of clear, frosted or opal glass to create a pendant that carries the visual quality of natural stone alongside the warmth of handmade clay. The marbled tones of cream, warm grey and soft stone are applied individually to every shade at Mullan Village before firing, which means the pattern is never reproduced identically from one piece to the next. What arrives is genuinely unique, and that uniqueness is the whole point.
How It Works
The G9 lamp sits within the glass shade, and the light quality depends on your choice. Clear glass gives focused, direct light and keeps the marbled ceramic fully visible from outside the shade. Frosted glass softens the pool of light and reduces glare, giving the room a warmer, more ambient feel. Opal glass provides the most even diffused glow and disguises the bulb completely, letting the marbled ceramic body become the main visual event. All three options allow the ceramic edges to catch warmly in the light, adding a depth that plain glass or metal shades cannot achieve.

The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The ceramics collection was developed with ceramicist Stephen Kieran, who created the marbling technique by drawing on the layered stone and mineral textures of the Irish landscape surrounding the village. The studio now employs over 100 craftspeople and distributes to more than 55 countries. Every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

Which glass works best with the Marbled finish?
Clear glass shows the marbled ceramic most crisply and gives the most defined light below. Opal glass softens everything and turns the shade into a glowing object — the marbled tones show beautifully against the diffused white. Frosted sits between the two and works well in rooms where glare is a concern. All three are good choices — it comes down to whether you want light or ceramic character to lead.
Will my pendant look exactly like the photo?
The marbling is applied by hand, so the pattern on your piece will differ from the product photos. The tones will be consistent — cream, warm grey and natural stone — but the distribution and swirl of the pattern is unique to every piece. That is what makes it worth having.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. The Rivale works with dimmable G9 LED bulbs — just ensure your dimmer switch is also rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
How long will delivery take?
Around 3 weeks from your order date as each piece is made to order in Mullan Village. We will keep you informed throughout.
Can I return it?
Yes — returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us to arrange.
