The Rivale Ceiling Light in Marbled finish brings the swirling, hand-painted beauty of marbled ceramic to a wall-mounted ceiling fitting. The tones of cream, warm grey and natural stone are applied individually to every shade at Mullan Village before firing, which means no two pieces carry an identical pattern. Paired with clear, frosted or opal glass, the marbled ceramic becomes a ceiling fitting of genuine visual complexity — the kind of piece that makes a room feel considered rather than simply furnished.
How It Works
The G9 lamp sits inside the glass shade. Clear glass gives focused downward light with the marbled ceramic visible from the side and below. Frosted glass softens the spread into a warmer, more ambient glow. Opal glass diffuses the light most evenly and makes the ceramic shade itself the visual centrepiece against the ceiling. At 21cm diameter and 15.5cm projection it sits confidently in a room without dominating. The marbled tones catch beautifully in warm-spectrum LED light, deepening in the evening and showing their cooler stone quality in natural daylight.

The Marbled Rivale Ceiling Light is well suited to bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms and living rooms where a flush or semi-flush fitting is preferred and where the ceiling should contribute something visually to the room. The marbled finish works across an exceptionally wide range of interior palettes — from cool minimal to warm and layered — and pairs particularly well with natural stone, warm timber, aged brass and soft neutral textiles. Used as a pair in a bedroom it creates a sophisticated overhead alternative to pendant or table lighting.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor inside a restored 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the marbling technique by drawing on the layered stone and mineral textures of the Irish landscape surrounding the village, creating a finish that feels simultaneously ancient and completely contemporary. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

Which glass works best with the Marbled finish?
Clear glass shows the marbled ceramic most clearly from the side and gives the crispest downward light — good for dining rooms and hallways. Opal glass softens the fitting into a gently glowing object and lets the marbled tones read against a diffused white background, which is particularly beautiful in a bedroom. Frosted works well in rooms where some softness and reduced glare are priorities.
Will my ceiling light look exactly like the photo?
The marbling is hand painted so the pattern on your piece will differ from the photos. The tones will be consistent — cream, warm grey and natural stone — but the distribution and character of the marbling is unique to every piece fired at Mullan Village.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Rivale Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for use within bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom-rated option and we will advise.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs — ensure your dimmer switch is also rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Yes — returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us to arrange.
