The Mullan Rivale Ceiling Light in Blue Earth is a flush ceramic ceiling fitting that brings genuine depth of colour to a surface too often treated as purely functional. The ceramic shade is formed and hand painted at the studio in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, with the layered teal and ocean tones of the blue earth finish applied individually to every piece before firing. Paired with a choice of clear, frosted or opal glass, the Rivale ceiling light offers a further dimension of light quality that a ceramic shade alone cannot provide. The colour shifts beautifully as the light changes throughout the day, and every shade is unique because it is painted by hand.
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and built within it a ceramics studio that now employs over 100 craftspeople. The blue earth finish was developed by ceramicist Stephen Kieran as a translation of the blues and greens of the Irish landscape into a ceramic glaze, and the Rivale ceiling light brings this quality to a flush format with a glass shade option for additional light control. Every piece is made entirely to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass, and the studio exports to more than 55 countries.
The Rivale Blue Earth ceiling light is well suited to bedrooms, bathrooms and hallways where a flush fitting is the practical preference and where the aquatic blue earth palette would complement the room's colour scheme and materials. It pairs naturally with pale stone, warm timber, brushed metal hardware and white or off-white walls.
