Mullan Kauri Pendant 37cm - Blue Earth with Finish Options

Blue Earth: Natural Colour at Statement Scale

The Kauri Pendant 37cm in Blue Earth is the largest pendant in the Mullan ceramic range and one of the most visually compelling. At 37cm wide and 28cm tall the layered teal and ocean tones of the blue earth finish have real room to breathe, the ceramic shade becoming a genuine focal point in a dining room, kitchen or open plan living space. The colour is applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing, building up differently across every individual shade. In natural daylight the blue earth reads as cool and aquatic. With a warm E27 bulb in the evening the deeper blues and greens within the glaze come forward and the pendant takes on a richness that transforms the space beneath it.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room. Without a glass shade the blue earth ceramic does all the visual work, the colour shifting as the quality of light around it changes through the day. The 37cm diameter creates a broad spread of warm light below the pendant, well suited to larger surfaces and open plan spaces. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is recommended to bring out the richer, deeper tones within the blue earth glaze in the evening.

Where It Works Best

The Blue Earth Kauri 37cm Pendant works best above a large dining table or generous kitchen island where its scale creates a proper focal point. It also works as a single statement piece in an open plan space where the ceiling needs something of genuine character. The blue earth finish pairs particularly well with natural stone, pale timber, limewash plaster, warm neutral walls and brushed or antique brass hardware.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the blue earth finish as a translation of the blues and greens of the Irish landscape into a hand painted ceramic glaze. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

What bulb does the Kauri 37cm Pendant take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 is recommended. The warmer the colour temperature, the richer the blue earth tones appear in the evening. A dimmable version lets you make the most of this.

Can the cable length be adjusted?
The pendant is supplied with 1m of cable. Your electrician can adjust this during installation if a different hanging height is needed.

Will the colour look exactly like the photos?
The blue earth finish is hand applied in layers, so the exact depth and distribution of colour varies naturally between pieces. The photos give a reliable guide to the overall tone but your piece will have its own particular quality of colour.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
