Mullan Kauri Ceiling Light - Matte White Striped with Finish Options

Matte White Striped: Clean Lines in a Sculptural Form

The Kauri Ceiling Light in Matte White Striped brings clean, graphic precision to a ceiling fitting with more height and sculptural presence than a standard flush light. At 20cm tall and 20cm wide it is one of the more architectural forms in the Mullan ceramic ceiling range. The matte white ground and fine stripes are applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing. Each shade is painted individually rather than machine applied, which means the striping carries a natural variation that sets it apart immediately from anything standardised or mass produced.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room. The matte white surface reflects light cleanly at the ceramic rim, brightening the ceiling plane around the fitting while the stripes add texture and visual interest that a plain white shade could never offer. A warm white dimmable E27 LED gives full control over brightness and mood throughout the day.

Where It Works Best

The Matte White Striped Kauri is well suited to bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways and living rooms where a ceiling fitting needs to contribute something considered without imposing a colour or material. Its taller form works particularly well in rooms with higher ceilings. The matte white striped finish pairs with virtually any wall colour, metal hardware finish or material combination, and it works particularly well in rooms with natural stone, pale timber, warm whites and soft greys.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The matte white striped finish reflects the bleached stone and whitewashed plaster of the historic buildings surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

What bulb does the Kauri Ceiling Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 suits the matte white striped finish well. A dimmable version gives full control over the mood in the room.

Will the stripes be perfectly even?
No, and that is intentional. The stripes are hand painted, so there is natural variation in width and spacing. The overall impression is clean and graphic but up close you can see it was made by a person.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Kauri Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated fitting and we will advise.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
