The Kapok Ceiling Light in Marbled finish is a 27cm handmade ceramic flush fitting with the timeless visual quality of natural stone and the warmth of hand worked clay. The swirling tones of cream, warm grey and natural stone are applied individually at Mullan Village before firing, the pattern never reproduced identically from one piece to the next. Up close the surface reveals genuine complexity. From across the room it reads as a confident, quietly beautiful object that earns its place on the ceiling.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room. The marbled ceramic body sits against the ceiling as a quietly sculptural form, the tones reading differently in natural daylight than in warm evening light. A warm white dimmable E27 LED suits the marbled finish well and reveals the layered depth of the surface most clearly at lower evening light levels.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the marbling technique by drawing on the layered stone and mineral textures of the Irish landscape surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

What bulb does the Kapok Ceiling Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 suits the marbled finish well. A dimmable version lets you adjust the atmosphere in the room through the day.

Will my ceiling light look exactly like the photo?
The marbling is hand painted so the pattern on your piece will differ from the photos. The tones will be consistent but the distribution and character of the marbling is unique to every piece fired at Mullan Village.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Kapok Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated fitting and we will advise.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
