The Mullan Ferox Pendant in Blue Earth brings a sense of depth and calm to any room it inhabits. The ceramic shade is hand painted in layered ocean and teal tones in the ceramics studio at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, with the blue earth finish shifting in intensity depending on the quality of light around it. Natural daylight reveals its cooler, more watery qualities, while warm evening light draws out the deeper, richer tones within the glaze. And because every shade is painted individually by hand, the colour variation across the surface is entirely unique to your piece.
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village and began building a handmade lighting studio that would eventually grow to employ over 100 craftspeople. The blue earth finish is one of the original ceramic finishes developed for the collection, drawing its palette directly from the Irish landscape — the dark greens and blues of its fields, sky, rivers and coastal light. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran shaped the ceramic process, creating a range of finishes that celebrate the natural variation of clay rather than trying to standardise it away. Today Mullan exports to more than 55 countries and its ceramic pendants are found in homes and hospitality venues across the world.
The Ferox Blue Earth is a pendant that works across many different room types. Above a kitchen island it adds colour and warmth while the ceramic body itself acts as a sculptural element. In a dining room it creates a focal point that draws the eye without competing with the food and conversation below. In a bedroom or living room it introduces a note of calm, natural colour that is harder to achieve with painted walls or soft furnishings alone. The blue earth palette pairs naturally with warm timber, natural stone, linen and brushed metal tones.
Available with clear, frosted or opal glass shade options and a choice of metal fittings including antique brass, antique silver, matte black, polished brass and satin brass. Made to order at Mullan Village using sustainable clay and recycled brass components. Handmade Irish ceramic pendant lighting with colour and craft at its heart.
