The Mullan Ferox Pendant in Black Clay is a pendant light that rewards close attention. The ceramic shade carries a deep, matte black clay finish that is applied by hand in the ceramics studio at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, with the natural variation of the clay giving the surface a richness and subtlety that a painted or lacquered fitting simply cannot replicate. Paired with a choice of glass shade options, it is a pendant that manages to be both bold in character and genuinely refined in its construction.
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who began the process of restoring a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village and transforming it into one of Ireland's most respected handmade lighting studios. The ceramics collection was developed to honour the village's centuries old identity as a community of makers, with each piece shaped, painted and fired on site by a team of skilled artisans. Today the studio employs over 100 people and its ceramic pendants, wall lights and table lamps are exported to more than 55 countries, with installations in landmark venues including the Titanic Hotel Belfast, Adare Manor and Cafe en Seine in Dublin.
The Ferox Black Clay pendant works beautifully above a kitchen island or dining table, where the ceramic shade creates a warm pool of light and the handmade quality of the fitting becomes a talking point. It is equally well suited to a living room or hallway where you want a single pendant to act as both a light source and a sculptural object. The black clay finish is one of the most versatile in the Mullan ceramic collection, sitting confidently against pale walls, dark joinery, warm timber and brushed or polished brass hardware.
Available with clear, frosted or opal glass options and a range of metal fittings including antique brass, antique silver, matte black, polished brass and satin brass. Made to order at Mullan Village using sustainable clay and recycled brass, with an approximate three week lead time. This is handmade Irish ceramic pendant lighting with genuine depth and character.
