Blue Earth: Natural Colour That Changes With the Light on Your Wall
The Bog Oak Wall Light in Blue Earth is a 28cm handmade ceramic fitting that brings layered natural colour to a wall, the kind of colour that shifts and deepens as the light in the room changes through the day. The teal and ocean tones are applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing, building up differently across every individual shade so no two pieces carry an identical depth or distribution of colour. In natural daylight the blue earth reads as cool and aquatic. In the evening with a warm E27 bulb inside it, the deeper blues and greens within the glaze come forward and the fitting takes on a richness that no plain shade can match.
How It Works
The open ceramic shade faces outward and slightly downward, washing warm light across the wall surface and into the room. The blue earth body sits on the wall as a naturally coloured ceramic form, the colour shifting visibly as the quality of light around it changes through the day. A warm white dimmable E27 LED brings out the richer, deeper tones within the blue earth glaze in the evening and is recommended for the best results.
Where It Works Best
The Blue Earth Bog Oak Wall Light is well suited to bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms adjacent to dry zones and hallways where natural colour on a wall is wanted without a strong or imposing tone. It pairs particularly well with natural stone, pale limewash plaster, warm timber and brushed or antique brass hardware. Used as a pair either side of a bed it creates a calm, layered bedside lighting arrangement that feels genuinely considered.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the blue earth finish as a direct translation of the blues and greens of the Irish landscape into a hand painted ceramic glaze. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

FAQs
What bulb does the Bog Oak Wall Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 is recommended. The warmer the colour temperature, the richer the blue earth tones appear in the evening. A dimmable version lets you make the most of this.
Will the colour look exactly like the photos?
The blue earth finish is hand applied in layers, so the exact depth and distribution of colour varies naturally between pieces. The photos are a reliable guide to the overall tone but your piece will have its own particular quality of colour.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Bog Oak Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only, not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated fitting and we will advise.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
