Marbled Ceramic: Timeless Pattern on Every Ceiling
The Bog Oak Ceiling Light in Marbled finish is a 28cm handmade ceramic fitting that brings the timeless visual quality of natural stone to a ceiling surface. The swirling tones of cream, warm grey and soft stone are applied individually at Mullan Village before firing, which means no two pieces carry an identical pattern. Up close the surface reveals genuine complexity, the tones shifting and layering in a way that feels simultaneously ancient and completely contemporary. From across the room it reads as a confident, considered object that earns its place on the ceiling rather than simply occupying it.
How It Works
The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room while the marbled ceramic body sits against the ceiling as a quietly sculptural form. Without a glass shade the ceramic does all the visual work, the marbled tones reading differently in natural daylight compared to the warmer evening light of an E27 bulb. A warm white dimmable LED is recommended, giving full control over brightness and allowing the marbled surface to show its best character at lower light levels in the evening.
Where It Works Best
The Marbled Bog Oak is one of the most versatile ceiling lights in the Mullan range precisely because marbled ceramic works across so many interior palettes. It suits dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways and living rooms equally well, and it pairs naturally with natural stone surfaces, warm timber, aged brass and soft neutral textiles. The marbled finish has the kind of enduring quality that does not date, a ceiling light you will still want in ten years.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the marbling technique by drawing on the layered stone and mineral textures of the Irish landscape surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

FAQs
What bulb does the Bog Oak Ceiling Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 works beautifully with the marbled finish. A dimmable version lets you adjust the atmosphere in the room through the day and evening.
Will my ceiling light look exactly like the photo?
The marbling is hand painted so the pattern on your piece will differ from the photos. The tones will be consistent, cream, warm grey and natural stone, but the distribution and character of the marbling is unique to every piece fired at Mullan Village.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Bog Oak Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only, not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated fitting and we will advise.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
