A Lantern Reimagined For The Garden

Meribel takes the traditional glazed lantern and rebuilds it in graphite aluminium and clear glass, so the light source sits visible inside a neat rectangular frame rather than hidden behind a shade. It brings a piece of considered, interior style lighting design out into the garden.

The Graphite Finish

The frame is finished in a graphite tone, dark enough to recede against brick, render or stone in daylight, while the four clear glass panels let the bulb's glow spread outward on every side once lit. It is a considerably more architectural look than a black or bronze lantern, sitting well against contemporary grey paving and darker cladding.

How It Works

Meribel takes a standard E27 fitting, rated to a maximum 20W LED bulb (not supplied), so the colour temperature and brightness are entirely down to the bulb chosen, whether a warm filament style GLS or a cooler tubular LED. The glass panelled design carries an IP54 weatherproof rating and a Class I electrical rating, and the pedestal base is fitted to a metal ground plate rather than a simple spike.

Where It Works Best

At 35cm high, Meribel sits lower and squarer than a typical bollard, making it better suited to marking a gate, doorway or short run of steps than lighting a long path end to end. Mantra has expanded the wider Meribel range to include solar post lamps and sensor equipped wall lights, but this pedestal version stays deliberately simple, a mains powered marker light for spots where you want a decorative fitting rather than a purely functional one.
