The Eve semi flush light from Mantra prefers a quieter kind of presence, letting a sweeping anthracite arm curve down into a broad oval shade that glows softly rather than glares. It sits close to the ceiling but still reads as a considered piece, not just a fitting you forgot to think about.

Anthracite and Black, Together

This version pairs a bespoke anthracite arm with an oval shade in black. The shade itself is made from a softly textured fabric with a clear inner lining, so the light that escapes underneath is warm and diffused rather than a single hard beam. Mantra also produces the Eve shape in polished chrome, matched with either a black or white shade, if you would rather keep the frame lighter and the shade darker, or go fully pale. Either way the oval silhouette stays the same.

How It Works

The fitting takes two E27 bulbs, each rated up to 20W (bulbs are not supplied), so you can choose the warmth and brightness that suits the room. Power reaches the shade through a single curved iron arm fixed to a slim ceiling plate, which is what gives Eve its semi flush profile rather than a full flush disc. The electrics are wired to Class I standard, meaning the fitting needs to be properly earthed on installation. It arrives mostly built, though some simple assembly of the shade and arm is needed once it is out of the box.

Where It Works Best

Eve was designed with bedrooms and dining rooms in mind, and the drop of the arm, with the shade sitting around 43.5cm below the ceiling plate, makes it a comfortable centrepiece over a dining table or in the middle of a bedroom ceiling where a full pendant might hang too low. Because the shade is oval rather than round, it reads a little longer and lower than Eve's round bodied relatives, which suits rectangular rooms and rectangular tables particularly well.
