Finished in titanium silver, its frosted diffuser wraps the light source in a soft, even glow rather than a single harsh point of brightness, so the fitting reads as calm accent lighting rather than a floodlit intrusion.

Choosing your light

This listing lets you decide how much is sorted for you before it arrives. Pick the fitting on its own if you already have a bulb in mind, or choose one of the two photocell variants, a 9W warm white or a 9W daylight white, and the Smartpost arrives ready to switch itself on at dusk and off at dawn without any extra timer or sensor to wire in.

How it works

Inside the aluminium body sits a standard E27 bulb holder, so you are not locked into one lamp type. A candle style LED lamp gives a softer, lower output glow, while a higher powered GLS LED pushes out more light for larger borders. The frosted polycarbonate diffuser evens out whichever bulb you choose, and a daylight white lamp will bring out the whiteness of that diffuser more than a warm white lamp does. The fitting is rated IP65 for outdoor use, runs on a 230 to 240V mains supply wired in parallel, and needs no separate driver.

Where it works best

The Smartpost is built for path and border lighting rather than security or task lighting, its low level glow marking the edge of a walkway or the line of a driveway. A 5mm thick surface mount plate suits patios and decking, while the supplied 400mm aluminium ground spike is the better choice for lawns and soil beds. Does the Smartpost come with a bulb?
Only if you choose one of the photocell bulb variants above. The base fitting is sold without a bulb, so you can fit an E27 lamp of your choice.

Can it be fixed into soil rather than a patio?
Yes. It comes supplied with both a surface mount plate for hard standing and a 400mm ground spike for lawns or borders.

Does it turn on and off by itself?
Only if you fit a photocell (dusk to dawn) bulb, either by choosing one of the photocell variants or by fitting your own photocell E27 lamp.
