A living timber post that lights the way
The Radiata post brings a natural, sculptural quality to path lighting that cast metal designs cannot match. Solid Radiata pine is topped with a slatted brass fitting in an aged silver finish, giving off a soft, banded glow through the slats rather than a single bright point.
Choosing your height
This post is available at two heights, 0.5m to 0.6m or 0.8m to 0.9m above ground, with a further 0.3m to 0.4m sunk below ground for stability in both cases. Go with the shorter post for low borders and step edging where you want a gentle marker light, and the taller post where you need the light to stand clear of planting or where sightlines matter more, such as along a driveway.
How it works
Light comes from a single LED G9 bulb, which is not included, housed inside the slatted brass top and diffused outward through the timber slats to reduce glare. The fitting is wired in parallel and runs straight from the mains with no separate driver needed.
Where it works best
Its natural timber body makes it a good match for gravel paths, cottage gardens and anywhere a metal post would look too formal. Because the post is set well into the ground, it also holds up in more exposed spots than a surface mounted spike light would.
Good to know
- Posts measure 0.5m to 0.6m or 0.8m to 0.9m above ground, with 0.3m to 0.4m buried below ground, and are 150mm in diameter
- Made from solid Radiata pine, pressure treated to BS8417 Use Class 4 standards, with a brass and glass slatted top in an aged silver finish
- IP54 rated
- Takes 1 x LED G9 bulb, sold separately, rated up to 30W maximum
- Mains powered, wired in parallel, no separate driver required
- 5 year warranty
- As a natural material, expect some knots, splits or twists in the timber, these do not affect performance
Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions people ask
Does it come with a bulb?
No, it takes a single LED G9 bulb which is sold separately.
Can these posts be installed at any time of year?
Installation between October and March is best, since the timber can dry and shrink faster in warmer months. Avoid waterlogged ground, which can affect the wood over time.
Will the timber look the same on every post?
No, as a natural material each post will show some variation in grain, knots or minor splits, which is normal and part of its character.
