A Broad Glass Column Made To Carry A Shade
The Temple Floor Lamp is a tall, hand blown glass column, 120mm across, standing on a flat plated metal base with a lamp holder at the top for a shade of your own. It has more presence than a slim stem, and the clear or ribbed glass catches the light from the bulb right along its length. Leverint designed it to complement your shade, so the glass supplies the height and the shade supplies the glow. The glass is blown by hand in Leverint's London studio. It is a tall floor lamp, standing 1300mm high to the top of the lamp holder, before any shade is added, on a 250mm wide base, and it weighs approximately 7.5kg. Please note that the fabric shade shown in the photos is not included, so you can pair the base with a shade of your own choosing.
Choose Your Glass and Metal Finish
Each lamp is made to order in your choice of hand blown glass and plated metal finish, chosen from the swatches above when you order. The photos show the column in clear glass and in ribbed glass, which adds fine vertical lines along its length. Leverint plates the metalwork in polished brass, brushed brass, weathered brass, bronze, polished nickel or satin nickel, so you can match it to the rest of your scheme. Because the glass is blown by hand and the metal is plated by hand, the colour and texture of your lamp may vary slightly from the photos, and screens show colour differently from one device to another. If you are unsure about a finish before ordering, please call our customer service team.
How It Works
The lamp takes one E27 bulb, which is not supplied as standard, so you fit a bulb of your own. Leverint's technical sheet lists a 40W maximum, while its product page lists 8W for an LED bulb, so a low wattage LED bulb is the sensible choice. It is supplied with 1.5 metres of fabric sleeved flex and an inline switch, so you add a bulb and a shade and plug it in. Leverint does not supply the shade, so choose one that suits an E27 lamp holder and the proportions of the base. The inline switch is on and off only, so the lamp is not dimmable as supplied. If you ever want the lamp rewired or connected to anything other than the supplied switch, have that work carried out by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
With a 120mm glass column on a 250mm base, the Temple Floor Lamp has enough presence to stand alone in a living room corner, beside a sofa or armchair, or at the end of a hallway. It also suits a bedroom, where a tall lamp can sit beside a chair or dressing table. The clear glass keeps the look light and lets the shade take the lead, while the ribbed glass adds fine vertical texture that stays interesting when the lamp is switched off.
Made By Leverint
Leverint is a hand blown glass lighting studio based in Enfield, London, where each piece of glass is shaped by hand rather than cast in a mould. The studio says it draws on more than a century of glassblowing experience through its parent company, G Farley and Sons, and its founders bring decades of lighting design and glass artistry to every lamp. A column this wide and tall needs walls of an even thickness all the way up, which is the kind of consistency hand blowing is meant to deliver.
