Understated Beauty, Fixed To The Wall
Shibui takes its name from a term in Japanese aesthetics for simple, understated beauty, and Søren Refsgaard's 2021 design leans into that with a minimalist aluminium form that reads as much sculpture as light fitting.
How it works
It stands 20cm high, on an E14 fitting with a maximum recommended 10W LED (bulb not included), wired via a flat, black, 175cm cord. Wall mounting should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Where it works best
Its compact, low profile shape suits a hallway, bedside wall or a reading spot where you want a soft accent light rather than a large fitting.
A Danish lighting heritage
Le Klint was formally established in Odense in 1943 by Tage Klint, though the story starts earlier, around 1900, when his father P.V. Jensen-Klint hand folded a petroleum lamp shade using a technique inspired by Japanese paper folding. Esben Klint's Model 107, designed in 1942, remains the touchstone for the hand pleated paper shades Le Klint still makes today, a skill that takes new folders around a year to learn and two to three years to fully master. Shibui, designed by Søren Refsgaard, belongs to a different, more recent chapter of that story, where Le Klint invites designers to work in materials like aluminium alongside its pleated paper pieces.
