Part of a Danish design house

Le Klint has been designing and making lighting in Odense since Tage Klint formally founded the company in 1943, building on hand pleating techniques his father P.V. Jensen-Klint began developing around 1900 for a petroleum lamp shade, an idea borrowed from Japanese paper folding. That heritage still runs through Le Klint's hand pleated paper shades today, each one folded by hand by craftspeople who typically take around a year to learn the technique and two to three more to master it. Shibui sits alongside that tradition as one of Le Klint's newer collaborations with outside designers, translating the same pared back sensibility into a solid aluminium form rather than a pleated paper shade.
