A Compact Cannon Overhead
Carronade II is Markus Johansson's update of his Carronade series, its short, wide barrelled silhouette inspired by the carronade, an 18th century naval gun developed by Scotland's Carron Company. Since 2016 the original series has been one of Le Klint's more popular ranges; this "II" generation updates the finishes while keeping the same cannon inspired shape.
Smoked oak or black oak
The metal barrel comes finished in brass or stainless steel detailing, paired with either smoked oak or black oak trim.
How it works
This is the smaller spot pendant, hung on 300cm of round, black cord (bulb not included), taking an E14 or E27 fitting with a maximum recommended 20W LED depending on size. We'd recommend a qualified electrician fits any hardwired ceiling pendant.
Where it works best
Its directional, spot like beam suits a kitchen island, desk or reading spot where you want more focused light than a diffused pendant shade gives.
Made By Le Klint
A pleating tradition since 1900
Le Klint's name is built on hand pleated paper lighting, a craft that began around 1900 when P.V. Jensen-Klint folded paper into a shade for a petroleum lamp, taking his cue from Japanese origami. The technique stayed within the family for decades before Tage Klint formally founded Le Klint in 1943, and Esben Klint's Model 107, designed in 1942, remains one of the workshop's longest running pleated shapes. Shades are still pleated by hand in Odense today; a new folder typically needs around a year to learn the technique, and two to three years more to fully master it.
Where Carronade II fits in
Carronade II sits outside that paper pleating tradition. Markus Johansson's barrel shaped shade is worked in aluminium and oak rather than folded paper, part of the wider run of designer collaborations that has grown up alongside Le Klint's original pleating craft in the same Odense workshop.
