A Flower Folded To Hang Overhead
Snowdrop takes its name from the flower it echoes: a rounded bell shape on a narrow neck, folded so the pleats fan out like petals catching the light. It was designed by the trio Harrit, Sørensen & Samson in 2009, and like every Le Klint shade it starts life as a flat sheet, hand pleated in Odense before being set into its rounded form.
Standard foil or paper
Standard foil is Le Klint's own European lampshade material, a hard PVC that keeps a crisp white finish, resists UV yellowing and wipes clean easily. Paper is made in Germany to Le Klint's specification; it has a softer, more tactile surface and will develop a gentle golden patina with age rather than staying bright white.
How it works
This pendant is available in X-Small, Medium, Large and X-Large, all taking an E27 fitting and hung on 300cm of round, white cord that can be shortened to suit your ceiling. Bulbs are not included, and we'd recommend a qualified electrician fits any hardwired ceiling pendant.
Where it works best
The rounded, layered fold scatters light softly in every direction, so it suits dining tables, hallways and living spaces looking for ambient rather than task light. The smaller sizes work well grouped in a cluster at staggered heights; the largest size can carry a room on its own.
Made By Le Klint
Le Klint's hand pleating goes back to around 1900, when the architect P.V. Jensen-Klint folded a shade for a petroleum lamp to take the glare out of its light, borrowing the technique from Japanese paper folding. What began as a family craft became a company in 1943, when his son Tage Klint formally founded Le Klint to put the folded shades into production. That same hand pleating still happens today in Le Klint's workshop in Odense, where a new folder takes around a year to learn the technique and two to three years more to master it.
